rustic dining table and...?

early this month, our dear dollar-savvy friends, tanya and her husband, landed a major score on an incredible handmade reclaimed dining table at the round top antiques fair in round top, texas. it is enviable to say the least – so great! tanya has had her eye out for some dining chairs to complete the eating ensemble and it has got me thinking about all the possibilities.  i mean, what is a fabulous dining table without equally fabulous dining chairs anyway?  perhaps this reclaimed gem could live on as a work bench in the garage or an overworked and underappreciated kitchen island at best?  i should hope not - what a shame that would be!

upon entering ikea yesterday i was greeted by these amazing clear polycarbonate plastic armless chairs with chrome plated legs.  this was my “aha!” moment. they were so affordable and would most definitely add a modern flair to tanya's rough and tumble table. this encounter really got the wheels turning. so, i got home and immediately started researching. i found a good amount of eclectic and rustic-modern dining combinations that totally have me pulling up for seconds.

ikea tobias chair

ikea tobias chair in one of it's elements - not my favorite representation of a "rustic" table, but you get the idea.

tanya has her heart set on white and this is exactly what i had in mind!  very rustic-modern indeed.

personal favorite - it portrays the same "airy" personality as the clear polycarbonate chairs, but in a whole other material.  i really like the wood with the metal mesh.  + they have arms!  you gotta be able to sink back at some point before asking for more.

so here's a softer and more formal dining approach.  this combination with the linen covered parsons chairs is still very rustic, but classy as well.

this is another more formal dining type of situation, but with these fantastic ghost chairs.  their shape is traditional, but they are hyper-contemporary in material translation.  these are actually "vapor" chairs disguised as ghosts by cb2.

a vibrant twist of red!  a very fun and modern mix.

i like quite a bit about all that's happening here (which i'm sure you already know).  reclaimed lumber and metal - wonderful! reclaimed lumber and metal AND an upholstered bench - totally fabulous!  this is unpredictable and warm and well...just works!  it's a great masculine and femme combo too.

this is what i would imagine a small town farm boy and a modern city girl would come up with for the perfect dining medium.  it really is a great collection of genius!

here i love that the "wood on wood" doesn't have to be the same.  thank you!  i think this wood table is pleased with it's paired counterpart.  they don't have to compete, but simply sit there in peaceful harmony.

you know i couldn't resist this green machine!  seriously, how fun is this assortment?! check out what this dining combo gets to work with here - the table and playful chairs (don't miss the leg detail!), natural stone flooring, funky/airy paper pendant and not to mention - the view!

here's some more modern crisp white - with a serious eclectic spin.  i don't think one of those chairs is the same.

fav wood and metal combo with a sunshiny bend.  i think eating nooks are the perfect place to release some fun expression in the home.

ok, now let's get serious everybody.  this is seriously bold and beautiful!!! a white washed rough dining table and black-velvet-if-you-please dining chairs with nailhead trim.  the black branch chandelier is a great anchor - kind of meshing these two opposites together.

c'est ranch-chic?  why not?  this is a romantic combo that really works.  never thought pastel rattan seating would get me going, but this is brilliant!  i would spend hours on this porch eating and drinking with dear ones.

one last wood and white combo.  if it isn't, that table looks very much like restoration hardware's trestle salvaged wood dining table.  very elegant.  the white tulip chairs are a pleasant complement.  it all works exceptionally well atop the brick flooring as well.

have a wonderful weekend! happy chair shopping!!
